Courage is Contagious. Get Some!

On this fantastic Friday, I hope to inspire you to courage. In one of our previous episodes, I pondered the question, What Happened to Courage. You can listen to that episode here for more background to today’s show. I made the obvious point that AOC- the “abundance of caution” is killing our culture today. I want to bring you four stories with some audio clips of what courage sounds like:

  1. Today I heard the story of Bradley Keyes, who coached at Pembroke Academy in Pembroke, New Hampshire, for four years, explained his rationale in a letter to the school’s athletics director (that he also posted on a blog), according to local CBS affiliate WBZ. “I will not stand up in front of the kids and lie to them and tell them that these masks are doing anything worthwhile out in an open field with wind blowing and the sun shining,” Keyes wrote regarding the guidelines set by the New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association. “These insane policies are robbing kids of once in a lifetime opportunities for no valid reason other than irrational fears and going along with the sheep,” he added. Keyes concluded his letter by urging the athletics director to fire him “if you must,” to which the director allegedly obliged. Listen to this local news report and the words out of his own mouth.
  2. On Resurrection Sunday this week, we heard this report: A Polish pastor at a Canadian church booted some six police officers and health officials from his house of worship on Saturday as they were seemingly trying to shut down a Passover service over COVID-19 restrictions. In the viral video, Artur Pawlowski, who pastors a church in Calgary, Alberta, repeatedly tells the officials to immediately leave the church, and only come back when they have a warrant.   3. Back in November of last year, It became apparent that some business owners in Buffalo, New York, have had enough of the arbitrary coronavirus-related restrictions handed down by Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo that are killing their establishments and hurting their employees. Gathered inside Athletes Unleashed gym in Orchard Park, a number of business owners refused to comply when a health department official and the Erie County Sheriff’s Department entered their facility. The business owners, who taped the interaction, told the health dept. official and the sheriffs to “go get a warrant” and leave their “private property.” And, to cheers from the business owners, the authorities complied, leaving the gym and the front of the business, video shows.
  4. This report from British Colombia: Two Canadian health inspectors were shouted out of a British Columbia restaurant — after they arrived to deliver a closure notice for serving patrons indoors against Covid guidelines. British Columbia’s safety minister responmded to the incident and warned there would be consequences for businesses defying public health orders, stating: “Harassment of enforcement officials will not be tolerated, and closure orders by Vancouver Coastal Health or any other health authority must be respected.” The Corduroy restaurant was forced to close eventually, but not because of violating Covid guidelines — because they sold out of food! Here’s what that sounded like:

I tell you, every time I listen to those clips, a big grin breaks out on my face. It shows me that some people are still fighting for common sense, for decency, for liberty. It shows me that there is still hope for liberty-loving individuals. Be one of these people. Teach your children to be the kind of people that will stand up to bullies, whether they are on the school playground, in your local public health department, or in the highest reaches of the federal government.

Don’t Care

I don’t care about the nanny-state dictators attempting to wipe every nose and enforce every arbitrary guideline under the guise of AOC. A government big enough to “protect” us is also big enough to crush us. We have to be willing to push back against the insanity if we are going to live free.

Care

I want my two daughters to grow up in a nation where individual liberties are expanding, not shrinking. I fear for a future where petty tyrants at health departments across the land can commandeer the levers of government to strip us of our rights while saying, “We’re protecting you.” Ronald Reagan was right when he said, “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: I’m from the Government, and I’m here to help.” Are we still capable of individual liberty? Are you? I want to encourage you today to live free. Reject the culture of cradle to grave care and protection. Push back against the mask mandates and the imbecilic regulations. Live as if we were still the land of the free and the home of the brave.
